Can I do something to help?

Every case of hoarding is different and will require a different process and strategy. The best thing you can do in any case is listening to the individual without judgment, build trust, and have compassion.

Below are some tips to help you with different scenarios.

My neighbor may be hoarding

neighbour may be hoarding

We get calls regularly requesting advice when neighbors suspect hoarding. We have experience and can share with you the most successful ways to help. Here are a few tips.

  • The most important tip is to check your own emotions and judgment. Anger, blame, and judgment only intensify the situation
  • Establish a relationship, even if it is a simple note of kindness or a wave hello.
  • Ask your neighbor if they need help without accusing them or judging them
  • In some instances, you can call Adult Protective Services in your county. They offer help and support and should not be feared
  • The most successful situations always include care and compassion. Force, anger, and negativity do not end in successful change

  • Seek mental health counseling individually. As the child of someone who hoards, it is helpful to address your needs first
  • Create boundaries and verbalize them
  • Research co-dependent relationships
  • Release unrealistic expectations
  • Focus on other positive areas besides the hoarding
  • Family therapy

  • The best thing you can do is to support them
  • Pay attention to judgment you may have

Check what hundreds of our clients think of us

I found them to be very professional and easy to deal with since I couldn’t be on-site. I was tied up with other business and was able to handle everything over the phone. They did an excellent clean-out of a property that was left in bad shape. I will use them again if that service is needed again.

Doing What’s Right: Sell, Donate, Recycle

We know your things are important and valuabe. We are able to consult and plan together with our clients what items can be sold, donated directly to families in need, or recycled.

We always do what’s right and take no shortcuts. If a valuable item can be donated, we will make sure it is donated directly to families in need through our low income familiy partners in Denver. Only if an item can not be sold or donated, we will then proceed to recycle.

You can rest assured to that your valuable items will always find a 2nd home if possible, and will not be just thrown out.

Mandatory Clean Outs

We have experience in working with city and county officials for mandatory clean outs. When our clients are facing crisis situations, we can help. We understand what needs to be done to stay in the home.

It takes special training and experience to understand and help you through the process, and we got you covered.
